ENG 130 Refrigerant Expansion

Refrigerant expansion is one of the 4 parts of the refrigeration system - so you might think it gets just as much attention as compressors, condensers, and evaporators - but it doesn't.  The reason for the lack of respect is that it isn't a very expensive device - some expansion devices are just an orifice.  Despite its low cost and simplicity - there are a lot of thermodynamic things going on at the expansion device and we will go over those here.
